Side Quest
Arts council England funded project DYCP grant
Side quest: building new virtual environments and incorporating live green screened action to reach new audiences (Engaging gaming in arts audiences through unique localised narratives)

During the last 20 years, my practice has centred on crafting costumes and objects that capture Folkestone’s evolving identity as a seaside town. However, physical objects alone are no longer enough to realise my vision. This project will use storytelling, performance, and digital production to present Folkestone’s complex folklore and the tensions between tradition and regeneration.
The DYCP grant will allow me to expand my artistic language through transmedia storytelling, producing an immersive, interactive experience that explores Folkestone’s transformation through a mix of archival and virtual elements.
This project will draw on a rich archive of costumes and documentation that I’ve gathered over the years, creating a digital dataset to depict Folkestone’s heritage as both evolving and enduring. I’ll use photogrammetry and Unreal Engine to build environments that invite audiences to experience Folkestone’s history from fresh perspectives.
